Your “Instant Results” Facial Products Could be Making Your Skin Age Faster!
We live in a world that promises immediate results and instant gratification, so naturally, we think that this is the best way to go for our skin too! Well, that isn't always the case and I’ll explain why!
When a product claims an instant result, especially for anti-aging, fine lines and wrinkles, it is generally because the product creates a small amount of inflammation in the skin, causing it to become slightly swollen. This swelling creates an optical illusion where fine lines and wrinkles magically disappear. Moreover, it reduces the contrast between pigmentation irregularities on the skin which, from a before and after picture, we think of as an instantaneous miracle cream!
Here’s the problem: if a product causes inflammation, chronic inflammation if you use it daily, the inflammation will eventually work against your skin. The biggest cause of aging on the skin is inflammation. Inflammation can be seen from the environmental factors such as sun damage, pollution, etc. However, more often we are seeing inflammation caused from skin care products. The skin literally gets tired of protecting and defending itself and begins to revolt. This results in the breakdown of collagen and elastin, the support tissues of the skin, and leaves your skin feeling and looking more fragile, saggy and susceptible to rashes, irritation and sensitivities.
In order to get lasting change in your skin, you will want to create cellular change. Just like losing weight, cellular change takes time, consistency and patience.
How do you create cellular change in the skin?
Well….through proper skin care and facial treatments, of course!
Here’s a list of various ingredients that create cellular change:
-
Peptides
Peptides are the building blocks for collagen and work deep within the skin to optimize the skin’s cellular function and renewal cycle resulting in noticeably supple and radiant skin. Check out my Firming Peptide Serum
-
Retinols
Retinol triggers a signal deep within the skin cell to create rapid cell regeneration. This is super beneficial from an anti-aging standpoint since as we age, our skin cell turnover rate slows down. Retinols essentially teach our skin how to act young again! Take a look at my Pro-Retinol Serum
-
Alpha Hydroxy Acids
Alpha Hydroxy Acids, or fruit acids, also increase our cell turn over by dissolving the "glue" that holds dead skin cells together. This resurfacing of the skin results in fresh, glowing skin. Look at my Clarifying Serum
-
Antioxidants and Vitamin C
Antioxidants act as the protectors of our skin, preventing sun damage and oxidative stress. It will also stimulate new collagen growth, helping our skin look and feel younger! You’ll love my Brilliant-C Serum
