Diet: Meat and Acne

There are a variety of meats/organ meats that are high in both androgens and dietary iodine. Because androgens and dietary iodine are the two main reasons food triggers acne, these animal products should be
avoided in order to clear the skin. Unfortunately, shellfish are very high in
dietary iodine and should be avoided in order to clear the skin.

Meat lovers will be happy to know that most meats are acne safe! However, there are a few acne triggering meats that are best avoided. 

Eliminate: 
  • Shellfish, such as oysters, mussels, clams, etc.
  • Heart, Liver, Gizzards, Kidneys (organ meats)
  • Pate 
  • Foie Gras
Replace with: Acne Safe Meats
  • Free Range Chicken 
  • Organic Turkey 
  • Grass fed Beef 
  • Most wild caught and freshwater fish
