How to Get Carded at 40

When you want to look more youthful, getting carded can be extremely flattering. However, as we age, this (naturally!) happens less and less. There are so many factors that go into a healthy, youthful appearance...and much of that is skincare.

There are few things that you can do in your every day life to help your skin looking and feeling radiant, healthy, and youthful!

1. Reduce Your Sugar Intake

It's something we all know, but nobody really likes to hear..."cut back on sugar!" While yes, eliminating refined sugars completely will have the biggest impact on the skin, big changes can be made by even reducing sugar intake.

Refined sugars cause the skin to age more rapidly (you can read about that process here). Reducing the amount of sugar that you eat is one of the best ways to help slow down the signs of aging from appearing on the face.

2. Be Consistent With Eye Cream

A common question I receive is "When should I start using an eye cream?" The answer I always tell everyone is now! Anyone over the age of 18 should begin applying eye cream. Why? The skin around the eyes is very delicate, so aging shows up there first. When it comes to fine lines and wrinkles, prevention is key.

With that being said, don't panic if you haven't started using one. Anyone at any age will see benefits from eye creams.

I recommend the use of Bright Eyed Illuminating Serum and Hydra-Revive Eye Cream. Please Check-In with me so we can incorporate these eye creams into your customized skincare routine

3. Add Peptides to Your Routine

Peptides (which are short chains of amino acid) are scientifically proven to support the skin, making it appear more youthful! Our Firming Peptide Serum is formulated with two of the most powerful peptides: Acetyl Hexapeptide and Palmitoyl Pentapeptide. These peptides in combination soften fine lines, firm the skin, and stimulate new collagen growth.

Adding a peptide to your skincare routine will help your skin appear more youthful no matter where you're at. It will also help act preventatively to slow down the deepening of expression lines and wrinkles.

4. Add Retinol to Your Skincare Routine

One of the best ways that you can promote more youthful skin is by adding a retinol, like our Pro-Retinol Serum, to your nightly skincare routine. Retinol increases the production of new collagen in the skin, which is essential for that supple firmness we associate with youth.

When the growth of collagen is stimulated, you'll see the skin become more firm over time, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Learn everything you need to know about Retinol here

5. Exfoliate Regularly

When many people think about looking younger, they think about creams and serums to help. While yes, those are essential to any graceful aging skincare routine, part of having a youthful appearance is having skin that is radiant and glowing.

Regular exfoliation is essential to any anti-aging skincare routine. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells, resulting in more even-toned, radiant appearing skin. I recommend our Skin Smoothing Polish. Formulated with natural round silica beads, it is gentle enough to be used daily. Another great tool to have in your skincare arsenal is an exfoliating mask, like our Pumpkin Enzyme Mask. This mask exfoliates the skin while you're wearing it, promoting an overall glow!

6. Moisturize

Regular moisturizing doesn't just make the skin look fresh and glowing, it also helps to prevent the signs of aging. In any skincare routine, consistent moisturizing is vital to having healthy skin.

Most people don't realize that they are not moisturizing properly (yes, there is a way to properly moisturize your skin!) For example, it is so important to apply a humectant before your moisturizer to reap the most benefits! Read more about how to properly moisturize your skin here

7. Visit the Dentist

If you're prone to grinding your teeth at night, visiting your dentist for a custom night guard can be one of the best ways to prevent sagging and jowls around the mouth. Grinding the teeth consistently over time affects our facial bones and can contribute to bone loss over time.

When we experience bone loss in the face, the skin that was supported by that bone structure begins to sag, instead of laying firmly across the skin. You can read all about this here

8. Combat Stress

Stress is detrimental to the human body, and the same is said for youthful appearing skin. Not only does stress cause the skin to appear dull and dry and give us dark circles and puffiness, it also has lasting effects, the reason being stress changes the proteins in the skin. This leads to a loss of elasticity over time. Read more about how stress affects the skin and ways to alleviate stress in your life here

9. Sleep Well

Getting a good night's sleep consistently is something that can make a big impact on the skin. While we are sleeping, the body works on repairing and rejuvenating the skin. When we don't sleep well, this reparative process cannot happen which means we're not repairing the damage from the day and creating new skin cells. Over time, this leads to lackluster skin. Try to aim for 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep per night.

10. Sunscreen

It's not news to you that sun exposure is very damaging to the skin, but it might surprise you to hear that sun exposure is the leading cause of sagging, wrinkled skin, and broken capillaries.

Sun damage doesn't show up right away. Instead, the sun damage that you received throughout your childhood won't appear until your early 30's.

What this does mean is wearing sunscreen today will prevent sun damage showing up later in your life, which is why I urge you to wear sunscreen every single day!

11. Drink Water

Our skin is composed of 63% water, so ensuring we stay hydrated has major benefits for the skin. Not only does it plump up existing fine lines and wrinkles, it also helps keep your skin from becoming dry and irritated, reduces dark circles under the eyes, and brightens skin tone - leaving your skin appearing radiant and youthful!

The signs of aging are inevitable, but with these products and lifestyle adjustments, we can slow down the signs of that process so you can enjoy being carded at 40!

xoxo, Emme
