Acne-Safe Soy Alternatives

Soy is in many processed foods and vegetarian meat-alternatives. Unfortunately, soy is a big acne trigger as it affects androgens (hormones) which can lead to hormonal acne breakouts. Along with that, soy is very high in dietary iodine, so it's best to avoid it completely.
Below are some of my favorite soy-free alternatives:
Soy Milk Alternatives
- Almond milk
- Coconut milk
- Rice milk
- Cashew milk
- Oat milk
- Macadamia milk
- Hemp milk
Soy Sauce Alternatives
Tempeh Alternatives
- BeCultured Tempeh (or any tempeh made from beans - here's a recipe I love)
Tofu Alternatives
- Firm Polenta (You can find firm polenta in the pasta aisle at most grocery stores, or on Amazon here)
- Burmese Chickpea Tofu (Here is a great recipe!)
- Franklin Farms Chickpea Tofu
- Blended Tofu (If tofu is blended to make a quiche or tofu-based “cheese” use one (15-oz) can of chickpeas or white beans plus 1-3 tbsp tahini for added flavor and creaminess!)
Miso Alternatives
- Chickpea Miso (I love Miso Master Organic Chickpea Miso and South River Miso Company)
xoxo, Emme
