2025 Skincare Trends: What’s In, What’s Out, and How to Stay Ahead
by Emily Burg on December 20, 2024
Can you believe 2025 is almost here? It feels like 2024 flew by, and with it came so many exciting advancements and shifts in the skincare world. As we look ahead, I want to share the trends I see making waves in 2025—as well as a few that I think are on their way out.
Trend Predictions for 2025
AI-Powered Skincare
AI in skincare is one of the most exciting trends we’re seeing for 2025, and it’s already making a big impact here at Emme Diane. While I’ve always taken a very hands-on approach to analyzing your skin and creating tailored routines, I’m excited to share that we’ve added an AI skin analyzer to our consultation process! This powerful tool takes our ability to understand your skin to the next level.
For those of you who are new here or haven’t had a consultation in a while, let me explain how it works. The AI analyzer gives us an incredibly detailed look at your skin, uncovering subtle issues like dehydration or non-inflamed acne—things that might not be immediately visible to the naked eye. But don’t worry, this doesn’t replace the personalized care you’ve come to expect. Think of the AI as a high-tech assistant that enhances the process.
At the end of the day, my expertise and understanding of your skin remain at the heart of every plan we create together. The AI just helps us work smarter and faster to get to the root of your skin’s needs. Whether you’re an existing client or looking to get started, I’m excited about how this technology can bring even more clarity and results to your skincare journey.
The Continued Focus on Barrier Repair
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—your skin barrier is EVERYTHING. Over the years, so many of us have overdone it with exfoliants and harsh actives, leaving our skin stressed and sensitive. Thankfully, barrier care has finally become a top priority, and I think this trend is only going to grow in 2025.
Instead of quick fixes like "slugging," more people are turning to long-term solutions with products rich in ceramides and antioxidants. These ingredients help your skin stay strong and resilient, which is the key to achieving that smooth, glowing complexion we all want. If you’ve been focusing on barrier repair, you’re ahead of the game—and I’m here to help you keep that momentum going.
Adaptogens: Nature’s Stress Relievers for Your Skin
Have you tried our Barrier Balance Cream? If so, you’ve already experienced the magic of adaptogens like reishi and chaga mushrooms. These natural ingredients are becoming skincare superstars, and for good reason! They help your skin handle stress—whether it’s from pollution, inflammation, or just life in general.
Adaptogens also pack a punch when it comes to calming irritation and boosting your skin’s defenses. I’m planning to incorporate even more of these powerful ingredients into my formulations, and I’m thrilled to see them gain even more traction in the skincare world this year.
Holistic Skincare: More Than Just Products
When it comes to skincare, it’s easy to get caught up in finding the perfect product or chasing the latest trend. But the truth is, great skin is about more than what you put on your face—it’s about taking care of your whole self. That’s why I’ve always believed in a holistic approach to skincare, and I think this mindset will become even more popular in 2025.
Don’t get me wrong, the right products are important, but they’re just one piece of the puzzle. Your skin reflects what’s happening inside your body, so things like stress, diet, and sleep all play a big role in how your skin looks and feels.
I’ve seen it firsthand with my clients. Some of the most stubborn breakouts or irritation clear up dramatically when we make small lifestyle changes, like eliminating an acne-triggering food, managing stress better, or prioritizing sleep. These shifts, combined with a tailored skincare routine, can make a world of difference.
In 2025, I think even more people will embrace this mindset, focusing on harmony between skincare and overall wellness. And the best part? I’ll be right here to help you connect those dots and create a plan that works for you. If you’re ready to dive in, my free 3 part Understanding Acne series is a great place to learn more!
Trends We’re Saying Goodbye to in 2025
As exciting as it is to look forward, it’s just as important to leave some trends behind. Here are a couple I think (and hope!) we’ll see less of this year:
Hypochlorous Acid Sprays
These sprays had their moment, but they’ve been overused and often misunderstood. While they can help with surface bacteria, I’ve had so many clients come to me saying these sprays left them with increased redness, sensitivity, or even more breakouts. The problem? They’re often used as a quick fix instead of being part of a proper skincare routine. Plus, overuse can disrupt your skin’s microbiome, which is essential for overall health. If you’re curious about why these sprays may not be the best solution for everyone, I go into more detail in this blog post. In 2025, I think people will move away from relying on these and focus on more balanced solutions.
Overhyped Acne Supplements
You’ve probably seen these “magic pills” marketed as cures for hormonal breakouts. The truth? Hormonal acne is way more complex than a supplement can solve. Many of these products can even make things worse by throwing your hormones off balance. In 2025, I think more people will ditch these quick fixes in favor of a more holistic approach to managing breakouts. I recently did a podcast episode on this topic that I highly recommend you check out if you’re interested in learning more!
The "Clean Beauty" Buzzword
While the intention behind "clean beauty" is good, the term itself has become confusing and often misleading. Skincare should be about transparency and science-backed ingredients, not fear-based marketing. I’m hopeful that in 2025, we’ll see a shift toward clearer, more meaningful conversations about what goes into our products.
2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for skincare, and I can’t wait to explore it with you. Whether it’s trying something new or perfecting your current routine, know that I’m always here to offer advice and support. Here’s to healthy, glowing skin in the new year!
xoxo,
Emme
