For best results, we recommend using the Sulfur Refining Mask once a week. Oilier skin types can use the mask twice weekly as long as the skin is not dehydrated.
Aside from being used as a traditional facial mask, the Sulfur Refining Mask can also be used:
To give the skin a quick deep pore cleanse. Massage the Sulfur Refining Mask on the skin for 60 seconds with a little lukewarm water after cleansing the face. It can also be mixed with a small amount of our Skin Smoothing Polish for added exfoliation.
Plus it can be used as a spot treatment at night after the last step of your skincare regimen. Simply dot a small amount on any active breakout and leave it on while you sleep.
Finally, this mask can be used in combination with our Pumpkin Enzyme Mask or Cucumber Cooling Mask as part of our Multi-Masking Method.
Just like some people love cilantro and others think it tastes like soap, there are “super smellers” who notice a strong odor from products containing sulfur.
Most only notice a slight earthy scent, but those who are sensitive can find it to be very stinky. While rinsing off the product takes care of most of the scent, following with a toner will remove any last traces of odor.

The Sulfur Refining Mask is bottled in an airless jar. To dispense, remove the top lid, press down on the platform and the mask will dispense through the hole in the middle. Be sure to use 4 full pumps for each application.
When you can’t dispense any more product from the jar, twist off the top and you will have one application left in the jar to tide you over until your next jar arrives.
While it’s common to see the directions for clay masks suggest leaving the mask on the skin until it dries completely, the process of a clay mask drying on the skin actually does more harm than good.
As the clay dries, it not only pulls oil and impurities from the skin, but ultimately pulls moisture if left on too long which leads to excessive dehydration.
In order to work effectively, a clay mask only needs to remain on the skin for a short period of time and should be removed before it dries. We have found that 3 minutes is ideal for most skin types but if you have drier skin remove the mask after 1-2 minutes.

While Sulfa and Sulfur look and sound similar, they are actually two different ingredients. Sulfa is a prescription antibiotic and Sulfur is a naturally occurring element. Therefore, our Sulfur Refining Mask is safe to use if you have a Sulfa allergy.
