Battle of the Sunscreens: Pure Protection SPF 40 vs Tinted Mineral SPF 40

by Emily Linehan on July 20, 2023

We all know how vital sun protection is in preserving the health and beauty of our skin, which is why I didn’t take the task lightly when it came to developing our sunscreens.

Since the release of our Pure Protection SPF 40, I’ve had many clients ask me how it compares to the long-time fan-favorite, Tinted Mineral SPF 40. So, I wanted to take some time to give you the inside scoop on these acne-safe sunscreens and help you choose the perfect one based on your unique skin type and lifestyle!

In case you aren’t already familiar with it, let's talk about our newest sunscreen: Pure Protection SPF 40. This isn't just any ordinary sunscreen; it's a sunscreen that acts like skincare! Here’s what I mean by that – with a formula packed full of anti-aging ingredients such as antioxidants, vitamins C & E, and ceramides, this sunscreen not only shields your skin from the sun's harmful rays but also repairs existing sun damage, stimulates collagen production, combats free radical damage, and maintains hydration. It's no wonder this newer formula has quickly become a fan favorite!

Now, let's take a closer look at our best-selling Tinted Mineral SPF 40. This chemical-free sunscreen is designed with active lifestyles in mind, boasting water and sweat resistance for up to 80 minutes. This makes it perfect for sweaty outdoor workouts and beach vacations alike. And, as if that wasn't enough, it's rated PA+++, ensuring top-notch protection against UVA rays that can cause both damage and cancer.

While both of these sunscreens provide excellent protection, there are some key differences you'll want to consider when choosing the perfect sunscreen for your unique skin type and lifestyle. Let’s break those down:

Tint

Pure Protection SPF 40 is lightly tinted with a luminous finish, making it suitable for all skin types, even very fair complexions. On the other hand, Tinted Mineral SPF 40 has a universally flattering tint and a sheer, matte finish. It works for most skin tones, however, very light to fair skin tones may find that mixing 1 pump of Tinted SPF 40 with 1 pump of the Pure Protection SPF 40 provides the best results (this is actually what I do most days!).

Protection

Rest assured, both of these sunscreens have you covered with all physical, broad-spectrum, UVA/UVB SPF 40, and blue light protection.

Water/Sweat Resistant

Planning a day at the beach or a workout in the sun? While Pure Protection SPF 40 has a lot to offer, it is not waterproof. However, the Tinted Mineral SPF 40 has your back with water and sweat resistance for up to 80 minutes. So, when exercising, or spending time in the water, opt for our Tinted Mineral SPF.

Ideal For:

Pure Protection SPF 40 is a dream come true for normal/dry skin, thanks to its hydrating ceramides. If you have oily skin, Tinted Mineral SPF 40's matte finish is just what you need to keep that shine in check!

In conclusion, both Pure Protection SPF 40 and Tinted Mineral SPF 40 are fabulous options for protecting your skin from the sun, and each formula caters to different skin types and preferences. With their unique features, you can confidently choose the one that best suits your needs or even mix them for a custom blend! Don't forget, no matter which sunscreen you pick, reapply regularly to ensure optimal sun protection. Stay safe and have fun under the sun this summer!

Emme
