Emme’s Acne-Safe Makeup Routine
by Emily Burg on July 15, 2024
I don’t wear a ton of makeup and most days just wear sunscreen and a little concealer under my eyes.
But on the days that I’m filming or getting ready for a nighttime event, I like to add some color to my skin and even things out (especially if I have an unfortunate breakout, which does still happen for me sometimes!)
As a creature of habit, I haven’t deviated much from my trusted, go-to makeup products and routine. Of course, everything is acne-safe (except one, see note below.)
Primer
I like Hourglass Vanish Primer. It helps give that extra staying power to my makeup if I need it to go the extra mile for a busy day or when I’m in front of the camera.
Foundation
For lighter coverage, I’ll use bareMinerals Original Powder Foundation in Light Beige. When I want fuller coverage, I reach for Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Matte Foundation in the shade 215 Buff N. Both are such classics when it comes to acne-safe foundations.
Concealer
This drugstore find is such a good one – it’s the e.l.f. Camo Hydrating Concealer. A lot of times I’ll skip the foundation and just use this around my nose and eyes. I use the shade Light Peach.
Blush
Chantecaille Cheek Gelee in Happy is such a pretty, lightweight gel blush for a realistic flush of colo
Eyes and Brows
On my brows, I use Anastasia Brow Powder in Medium Brown and for eyes, I’ll do a light wash of color and definition with the Urban Decay Naked 3 Mini palette and Laura Mercier Eye Shadow in Vanilla Nuts.
*For lashes, I wear extensions so I don’t need mascara. It’s one of those “high-maintenance to be low-maintenance” things that really speeds up my everyday beauty routine!
Lips
To finish off the look, I’ll do a swipe of the Tarte Maracuja Juicy lip color in either White Peach or Fig.
Note: this lip product isn’t technically acne-safe when you look at the ingredients, however since it’s a lip product, it doesn’t cause any issues for me.
I also like the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre gloss in Pillow Talk.
If you want to find out if your makeup is acne-safe, you can use our “Pore Clogging Ingredient List and Checker” or refer to our Acne-Safe Makeup list. While not an exhaustive list of every makeup product out there, it’s a great starting point and we’re always updating it with new acne-safe finds!
