Do You Need An Eye Treatment?

by Emily Linehan on March 30, 2022

One question that I am frequently asked and you may be wondering yourself, "Is an eye treatment a must-have in my skincare routine?" In short, yes! But let's go over the details!

When Should I Start Using An Eye Treatment?

To avoid the delicate skin around your eyes from prematurely drooping and wrinkling, I suggest an eye cream for everyone over the age of 18. Prevention is key with your skin, and your eyes are the first part of the face to show signs of aging.

Why Do I Need A Product Specifically For The Eyes?

Like your lips, the skin around your eyes is significantly different than any other part of the face and requires specific care. Although most eye creams are ophthalmologist tested (safe for the eye area), the skin around your eyes is more fragile, therefore, it is more apt to have sensitivities or allergic reactions to these types of creams. The skin around your eyes also doesn’t have oil glands to help hydrate the tissue, which is why it’s even more important to use quality eye cream formulations, to capture additional emollients.

What Eye Treatments Do I Recommend?

I LOVE my Bright Eyed Serum which contains illuminating spheres to reduce the appearance of dark circles. It also helps with under-eye puffiness! The peptides used in this product soften fine lines and wrinkles, in addition to firming and tightening the eye area.

If you are someone who tends to get dryness around your eyes, using my Hydra-Revive Eye Cream on top of the Bright Eyed Serum provides the extra hydration your skin is craving.

Both products are amazing on their own, but even better when used together. Begin with a small pea-sized amount of Bright Eyed Serum gently applied under the eyes with your ring finger. Then apply a small pea-sized amount of Hydra-Revive Eye Cream on top to lock in the moisture.

Additional Eye Treatment Tips:

  • Avoid eye creams with heavy oils, as they can weigh down the delicate skin tissue, weakening the elastin fibers that cause premature aging. These oils can also seep into your eyes when you're sleeping, causing puffiness and irritation.
  • Apply your cream underneath the eye during the daytime and around the orbital bone at night (the bone that circles around the top of your cheekbone and below your eyebrow). Be sure to avoid applying too close to the lash line to avoid getting the product in your eyes, with can cause irritation.
*PLEASE NOTE: if you are an Emme Diane acne client, it is important that you only use your eye treatments during the day!
  • Use your ring finger (the weakest finger) when applying your eye cream. Any repeated or excessive pulling/tugging on the eye area will eventually lead to premature wrinkles…which is why it is important to be gentle!
  • Start early! As mentioned above, it is best to start using an eye cream as early as 18 years old. Prevention is key when dealing with the skin…especially your eye area.

xoxo, Emme
